My good Swordcaptain Dickson Lords,
We have met previously, and I hope that what impressions I've left with you are nothing less than kind and fair. By name I am Starkad Ambercrag, paladin of benevolent Ilmater and fellow son of Cormyr. And I would ask of you the way through which I might prove my merit and pursue my enlistment with the fabled Purple Dragons.
I see no conflict between service to King Azoun IV and service to the Broken God; indeed, duties to either would demand that oneself be placed in harm's way so that innocents may be shielded. To thus endure the fires of hostility so that good people may remain in peace is the work of sacrifice, noblest of virtues.
I remain confident that I shall serve and defend my king and my nation as a Purple Dragon as assuredly as I serve my god as a knight of the Order of the Golden Cup. Pray send for me at the Marvelous Mermaid Inn and I shall promptly return hither to hear your answer.
Steadfast and True,
Starkad Ambercrag
(So Stingy inspired me to roll up another townie character; of course, with Stingy being Stingy and me being me, I simply couldn't follow Wonika's tack and make Starkad completely incompatible with adventuring. He's meant to be another man-at-arms guarding and patrolling Palaggar alongside Benson and Mentinno, though he may use his off-duty time to venture to Uarhold and contribute to Palaggar's ongoing efforts to help Uarhold get back on her feet. Plus, his temple's in Uarhold, and as an Ilmatari he's honor-bound to feed, heal and console the suffering people of Uarhold anyway.
(Or have Serrica's bloody scourges against the merrow and the hags already done away with all that "suffering people of Uarhold" jazz? ;D )
Of course, being with the Order of the Golden Cup, he's not above busting a few heads if some baddies come blowing in to threaten the peace. But he's also honor-bound to always accept an honorable surrender and to show mercy to the vanquished. He'll crack their skulls, he'll patch their skulls right back up and he'll send them to the local jail cells to recover, minus their weapons and gear (which will be either handed over to the First Sword on duty or donated to charity, of course). Then he'll give the baddies a scathing lecture on the futility of cruelty and aggression before returning to whatever guard post, healer's tent or soup kitchen he's working with at the time.
Starkad will be eligible for his first Level in the Purple Dragon Knight PRC come next Level, so please get back with me soon, Lucky or Scurvy or Minion (or maybe even Min, if he's still a DM). Roleplay opportunities abound! )
