As Captain Dickson Lords wanders the halls of the Dragons' barracks, a message inked on marsh reed paper is left on his desk. Its paperweight is a surf-smoothed black coral, glimmering with radiance from within; its face sports a relief of a cresting wave so fine and intricately detailed as to evoke doubt that it was etched by mortal hands.
"My esteemed Captain Lords,
In the weeks ere last Highharvestide, I requested an audience with you, that we might speak of a newfound menace. I've yet to receive any word in reply, which is understandable; anyone of your vaunted station would surely be weighed with a great many tasks in perpetual vigilance over such a prosperous port as Palaggar.
But now, in light of my recent communion with the powers divine and of the extraordinary answer which I received, I must ask for your ear once more, noble sir, and far more urgently. A once-dead horror birthed from the tomb of the Halfway Forest again walks the earth, and my words are shed of all frivolity when I claim that we stand among the gods themselves in this happening. Even now, dread and mighty Umberlee looms at Prespur's shores, watching these events unfold with no small interest.
When you are ready to receive me, pray send for me at the Marvelous Mermaid. This tale began with a spectral Blue Dragon, and his cloak may be the first step of our journey together.
I wait with bated breath for your reply.

(Thank you for the divine portent and the blessed coral, Minion! Whichever DM gets to wrangle Captain Lords for this conference can take the blessed coral from Serrica then. )
