The Cliff Notes: Minimalist sneaked into [some cave] while Serrica was browsing To'cal Tok Tok's goodies (because that Greater Sahuagin Trident is pretty tempting, and I'm wondering if its power will affect undead too) and set up a line of poison gas traps and a drow ambush. After all that, I think Min just started throwing random monsters at Serrica, just to see which ones could kick her ass.
Combing back through all of tonight's battle spam, let's see how well Serrica and DM Minimalist did.
Round 1: A line of Strong (?) Poison Gas traps.
Outcome: The first one or two got her...nothing that a short pause and a Lesser Restoration scroll couldn't handle. After that, she threw up Negative Energy Protection and galloped over a few more of them--setting them off without suffering ill effects--just to be a wise-ass. Then she continued on her merry way.
On a related note, the pillars of red light that Min set up were pretty.
Victor: Serrica
Round 2: Two Drow Militia, a Drow Rogue and a Drow Priestess
Outcome: The drow elves caught Serrica by surprise in the cave's foyer, and the Drow Rogue had the annoying ability to Sneak Attack Serrica even while she was stabbing him. So the drow took the upper hand at first. But Serrica softened them up by arcing her Lightning Rapier's Lightning Bolt through a militiaman and the priestess, then they failed to interrupt her when she engulfed the battle with a Word of Faith, dazing all the drow except for the militiaman who had already been hit with the Lightning Bolt. That bought Serrica enough time to summon a spectre with Create Undead, mend herself fully with Greater Restoration and reverse the tide. Ice Storm and Negative Energy Burst rounded off the drow, and the priestess gave up a valuable blue spinel which Serrica would later leave as an offering to her goddess.
Victor: Serrica
Round 3: A heavily buffed Orc Champion
Outcome: Serrica saw the Orc Champion moving to intercept her and had time to get ready; unfortunately, her spectre impulsively charged the champion and was quickly cut down. The Hasted champion and Serrica traded several solid hits before Serrica retreated, healed fully with Greater Restoration and rained death on the Orc Champion with an Ice Storm.
Victor: Serrica
Round 4: A Hooded Wraith
Outcome: The Hooded Wraith was undead, and Serrica is a cleric. Winning was as easy as Rebuking and repeatedly stabbing until the wraith collapsed.
Victor: Serrica
Round 5: An Orc Shaman
Outcome: As Minimalist soon learned, I finally came up with a rationale for Serrica to occasionally cast Fire Storm. And the shaman--along with every Blood Orc standing near him--quickly perished in a shower of searing Umberlant wrath.
Victor: Serrica
Round 6: A Half-Orc Bandit
Outcome: By that point, Serrica had summoned her trusty Skeleton Captain with Animate Dead. The arch-skeleton charged, and the bandit, with a large number of Blood Orcs, quickly converged on the Captain, who did such a good job at distracting them that they didn't notice Serrica casting Negative Energy Burst on her own lackey. Whichever orcs (and half-orcs) survived were still weakened and robbed of Strength by the same burst which healed and buffed the Captain. The Captain's Death Armor and Serrica's Hammer of the Gods took out the rest of the amassed Blood Orcs, leaving the Half-Orc Bandit wide open for a tenacious and ultimately fatal two-on-one counterattack.
Victor: Serrica
Round 7: A Minogon
Outcome: Though the Minogon was immune to mind-affecting spells, he was still vulnerable to the raw Divine damage from another Hammer of the Gods spell. Serrica's fearsome Skeleton Captain cut the Minogon down soonafter.
Victor: Serrica
Round 8: A Rakshasa
Outcome: Minimalist apparently overlooked a number of crucial factors while setting up this encounter:
1) Serrica's Class.
2) Serrica's Alignment.
3) The special treatment that Turn Undead receives in the hands of Clerics of certain Alignments on this server.
4) Serrica's two Cleric Domains.
5) The Rakshasa's creature type (Outsider).
In short: Thanks for the very interesting pet, Min.
Victor: Serrica
Round 9: An Adult Blue Dragon
Outcome: This encounter did not go so well. Serrica's Skeleton Captain immediately charged the dragon, lasting a surprising number of rounds before the dragon ultimately crushed him. During that time, the rakshasa, who had disappeared, reappeared to slaughter several Blood Orcs en route to attacking the dragon; a zombie popped out of the ground and was promptly dominated and sent at the dragon as well. The dragon's Fear aura, alas, got the better of Serrica (after she rolled a Natural 3 and missed the Fear's DC by only 3 points), locking her in fear while the dragon knocked her on her back and blasted her and the rakshasa with its lightning breath; fortunately, the dragon then turned on the Skeleton Captain, the rakshasa and the zombie, killing them while Serrica made a completely uncontrolled escape. The Faction gods smiled on Serrica, and the dragon became so busy pulverizing orcs that he failed to notice her cowering in a far corner of the Blood Plain, trapped there by an astonishing number of horseflies. Several long minutes later, the dragon's Fear finally subsided, and Serrica healed herself with healing kits, smashed the horseflies with a few Blood Orcs and made good her humbled escape.
Victor: Minimalist's Adult Blue Dragon. But really, it was a dragon. I'd be genuinely surprised if Serrica could solo that. The fact that she survived is a victory in itself.
Round 10: At least ten Hasted Scrawny Orcs with throwing darts.
Outcome: Need you ask?
Victor: Serrica
Round 11: Two Cockatrices
Outcome: The good news was that the bonus for Serrica's Fortitude Save, in itself, was more than the DC of 15 needed to resist a Cockatrice's Petrification. The bad news was that Natural 1's always equal failure, and when you're up against enemies with Petrification, that 5% chance of rolling a Natural 1 becomes very terrifying indeed. So even though the cockatrices hit Serrica three times, she endured long enough to call her last Fire Storm down on their heads, killing both Cockatrices.
Serrica don't take no chances with no cockatrices.
Victor: Serrica
Round 12: Two Manticores
Outcome: When she was younger, Serrica found Manticores fearsome, as two or three sprays of their spikes could kill her. But times have changed. The Manticores were foolish enough to engage her singly, and she wasted no time shrugging off their barrages of spikes as she charged each manticore, knocking each off its feet repeatedly while the fire and lightning of her adamantine rapier finished each manticore off in turns.
Then, like King Leonidas brushing a spate of Persian arrows out of his shield with a sweep of his blade, Serrica brushed the manticore barbs out of her armor and her skin before moving along towards Palaggar.
Victor: Serrica
Round 13: A Huge Iron Golem
Outcome: By this point, Serrica's spells were badly depleted, and only one of her remaining spells was an offensive one. The golem exhaled its poisonous breath over Serrica twice, but neither blast met with any effect. A small number of ogres and ogrillons then attacked the golem, which turned its final toxic breath on them while Serrica guarded herself against any further tricks with Spell Resistance.
After that, Serrica and the golem met in three or four clashes, each of which ended with Serrica and the golem trading blows until Serrica, with her superior ground speed, retreated to heal herself. The golem had interrupted her casting of Battletide, none of her attempts to knock the golem down had succeeded and the golem's immunity to magic had laughed off her last Negative Energy Ray. Serrica was still suffering a staggering amount of damage, and her Ghostly Visage was merely delaying the inevitable. Finally acknowledging that she was outmatched in her present state, Serrica exercised the better part of valor and quit the field, leaving the slowly marching iron golem in the dust.
Victor: Min's Huge Iron Golem, alas.
I'm not sure how many of those encounters were "canonical," so to speak. But they did make the evening a bit interesting.
Ten-ten till we do it again? ;D
