Pirate Isles is introducing a new option for players wanting to play exotic races and/or restricted roles: Guest Characters!
What is a guest character?
They are characters which can only be played during certain events/quests. Thus they are a guest for the duration of the event. While this duration might be longer than a single dm quest, guest characters are not adventurers: they have specific purposes they are trying to fulfill.
Guest characters are somewhat of a cross between NPCs and PCs, with a bit of dm helper tossed in for spice. They add an extra dimension to quests & may be involved in PvP (but only with dm supervision).
What kind of guest characters are allowed?
Any creature or being that could be present in the Sea of Fallen Stars is technically allowed, however; the more exotic and/or powerful, the less likely it is to fit within the scope of a dm sponsored event. Here are a few examples of guest characters:
How do I get one?
Generally, a dm running an event will determine the need for a guest character & request a private message from anyone wishing to play that kind of character. If a player has an idea for a guest character, they can pm a dm, however; it should be with a specific plot in mind. Please remember that guest characters are intended to help with dm plots rather than be the central focus & reason for the plot itself.
Can I keep playing my guest character?
Not until another relevant quest or event. You should talk to the dm beforehand to determine whether the character will be a recurring or one time guest.
What happens if my guest character dies?
The character would be dead until raised by a dm or player. This is not to say that they are permanently gone, but reintroducing them would require someone with intent & ability to raise them.
Why is it necessary to create this new category of character?
Guest characters will allow players to enjoy roleplaying exotic characters without making those exotic concepts stale & routine.
They will also allow players to roleplay roles like city guard and other organizations that would normally have too much IC power over other PCs.
Guest characters will also give dms more options during quests & create a collaborative quest environment: players will also be helping create a quest experience, not just receiving it.

- A recurring minion of a dm's big bad guy
- The first mate on a ship that is in recurring dm events
